I have seen several natural disasters in my life. I witnessed the complete destruction of homes and possessions during Hurricane Floyd (1999) and the flooding that followed while living on the east coast, and watched my Dad spend many evenings after work helping one of his close friends gut the remains of their home. My family moved to south Louisiana only a few weeks before Hurricanes Katrina & Rita devastated our coast, and I again was personally safe yet watchful as my community completely shifted. The incredible ravaging of the south by dozens and dozens of tornadoes at the end of April has put many of us in the same position – safe, yet heartbroken for our neighbors, family, and friends.
We here at Motion Picture Co have partnered with our churches, schools, and friends to do what we can to help the victims of these tornadoes. We encourage you to do the same. (While not as important as resupplying hurting families with food, clothing, and shelter, a group on Facebook dedicated to reconnecting families with lost memories such as photographs, photo albums, and ticket stubs has a special place in our hearts for obvious reasons.)
The following pictures were snapped this past week – I didn’t search for damage, but (not so) surprisingly found it on my way to photoshoots, to meet clients, and even during an engagement session. May we take these memories and never forget them, yet begin to move on together.
